Luis Torrens hit a two-run homer in the second inning and Francisco Lindor had a three-run shot in the seventh, powering the visiting New York Mets to a 13-6 rout of the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday afternoon.
The Mets completed the three-game interleague series sweep, knocking Cleveland out of the third wild-card spot in the American League as it fell a season-low two games below .500.
Lindor’s three-run blast off Craig Yoho scored Torrens and Jared Young, pushing New York’s lead out to 9-5. Lindor spent his first six seasons with Cleveland before being traded to the Mets ahead of the 2021 season.
New York tacked on four more runs in the eighth against Slade Cecconi, who faced five batters and didn’t record an out.
The Guardians had pulled within 6-5 in the fifth when Nathaniel Lowe hit a three-run homer off Nolan McLean. Chase DeLauter and Jose Ramirez scored on the 413-foot rocket to right.
McLean (8-7) struck out eight over five innings, giving up five runs on eight hits with three walks.
Torrens and Marcus Semien both went deep in the second when the Mets scored three times off Foster Griffin (12-4) to grab a 3-2 advantage.
Griffin never looked comfortable in his Guardians debut, three days after being acquired from the Washington Nationals. The 2026 All-Star gave up five runs on seven hits in four innings, striking out six with two walks.
Semien finished with three hits, two RBIs and two runs, Young drove in a pair, and Carson Benge and Luis Robert Jr. each had three hits.
Angel Genao, who had four hits in his major league debut Wednesday for Cleveland, went 1-for-4 with a run.
Guardians backup catcher Austin Hedges tossed a scoreless 1 1/3 innings in mop-up duty.
DeLauter and Ramirez also scored on the same hit in the first, when Angel Martinez had a two-run single to open the scoring.
Ramirez, who is battling soreness in his surgically repaired left wrist, returned to the lineup after missing one game and being relegated to pinch-running duties in a second.
