Rockies reinstate SS Ezequiel Tovar (oblique) from IL

The Colorado Rockies reinstated shortstop Ezequiel Tovar from the injured list Friday, while second baseman Thairo Estrada was placed on the IL with a sprained left thumb.

The Rockies announced Friday that Estrada’s IL move was officially made on Monday and was retroactive to last Friday.

Tovar, 23, last played June 2 before coming away with a strained oblique. He was batting. 258 with three home runs and 10 RBIs in 32 games and is a .260 career hitter with 45 home runs and 163 RBIs in 351 games over four seasons with Colorado.

The Rockies were set to resume play after the All-Star break on Friday at home against the Minnesota Twins and had Tovar in the starting lineup batting fifth.

Estrada, 29, was batting .284 with two home runs and 18 RBIs over 29 games. In seven major league seasons, including the previous four with the San Francisco Giants, Estrada is a career .254 hitter with 50 home runs and 213 RBIs.
