Orlando Magic point guard Jalen Suggs will sit out at least two weeks after sustaining a mild bone bruise in his right knee during Orlando’s victory over the New York Knicks on Sunday.
There was no structural damage to the knee, according to the team. Suggs will be re-evaluated in two weeks.
Suggs was injured in a noncontact play in which he went up for a layup and his right knee appeared to buckle. He fell to the floor and was eventually helped off with 2:09 remaining in Orlando’s 111-102 road win.
Suggs, 25, is averaging 8.0 points, 5.7 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in three games this season. He is shooting just 35.7% from the field and has made 1 of 9 3-point attempts.
Suggs has been injury-prone since being the No. 5 selection in the 2021 NBA Draft out of Gonzaga.
His 57 appearances (56 starts) last season were the second-most of his career behind 75 starts in 2023-24. He averaged 13.8 points, 5.5 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.8 steals last season.
For his career, Suggs is averaging 12.6 points, 3.8 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals. He has made 460 3-pointers but is hitting them at just a 33% clip.
The Magic are also without forward Paolo Banchero (ankle), who will reportedly be sidelined at least one month. He was injured during the third quarter of the Magic’s 115-93 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday.
